Abstract

Objective: To assess the retention force using a digital forcemeter, the peri-implant soft tissue health, and the periimplant marginal bone loss of two implant-retained mandibular complete overdentures with double crown attachments made of polyetherketone- ketone (PEKK) secondary crowns combined to primary crowns of two different materials Methods Fourteen healthy male patients, ages 55 to 65 on average, who were entirely edentulous • group I: seven patients were given a mandibular overdenture that was held by two im plants and had telescopic attachments for a primary zirconiabased coping and a secondary PEKK-based coping against a maxillay full denture. • Group II: Two implants were given to seven patients who got a mandibular overdenture with telescopic attachments, a maxillary full denture, and primary and secondary PEKK copings. . For 2-implant maintained overdentures, both groups assessed at T0, T6, and T12 months for retention, marginal bone loss, and preimplant soft tissue comparison between PEKK and zirconium double crown attachments. .Results Gingival, bleeding, plaque indices, and probing depths all significantly increased in both groups. PEKK and zirconia groups exhibited significant variations in gingival scores, with the zirconia group exhibiting greater plaque ratings at T6 and T12. For both groups, retention forces increased significantly; at T0 and T6, the zirconia group showed stronger retention. Retention forces between the groups not differ substantially by T12. Conclusion Zirconia and PEKK are two potentially useful variables for basic telescopic materials. In terms of peri implant plaque ratings, PEKK material is more biologically superior than zirconia
